Mandatory Collection Service
In order to protect the quality of air, water, soil, and other natural resources of the City, as well as the health, safety, and welfare of its citizens, and to prevent improper disposal of solid waste and recyclable materials; solid waste, yard waste and recycle collection services are mandatory for all City of Sanford residential properties and solid waste and yard waste collection services are mandatory for all commercial properties.
Exclusive Franchise
All solid waste generated or accumulated within the corporate boundaries (City Limits) of the City by both, or either, residential or commercial properties, will be collected and removed by Waste Pro, the City’s Contractor.
All residential recyclable material generated or accumulated within the corporate boundaries of the City will be collected and removed by Waste Pro, the City’s Contractor.
No owner, occupant or other person having control of a lot, tract or parcel of property shall collect or remove, or cause to be removed any solid waste generated on such property except by utilizing Waste Pro, the City’s Contractor.
Commercial source separated recyclable material collection is available within the City limits through Waste Pro and other City authorized Contractors that have obtained a Commercial Recycling Nonexclusive Permit from the City. Residential Collection
Household Solid Waste
Household Solid Waste is collected two (2) times per week. Your pickup schedule is either Monday/Thursday or Tuesday/Friday. Please click on the following link for a map of your service area: Map of Household Solid Waste Service Area.
An unlimited amount of household solid waste may be placed out for collection in any commonly available light gauge steel, plastic or galvanized receptacle of a nonabsorbent material, closed at one end and open at the other, and without any jagged or sharp edges, furnished with a tightly fitted top or lid and handles, which receptacle shall have a capacity not to exceed 40 gallons nor weigh more than 50 pounds each when full. Plastic bags which are designed to store and enclose solid waste, with sufficient wall strength to maintain physical integrity when lifted by the top, and weighing no more than 50 pounds each when full are also acceptable. The Contractor will leave behind containers exceeding the 40 gallon/50 pound limit or solid waste mixed with yard waste or hazardous waste. A tag indicating the reason will be left.
Garbage cans and bags will be provided by the owner, tenant, lessee or occupant of the premises at the residents’ expense. Garbage cans will be maintained in good condition by the resident.
Yard Waste

Yard waste is vegetative matter resulting from the yard and landscaping maintenance of your own property. This includes material such as tree branches, leaves, grass clippings or palm fronds. This also includes holiday trees.
An unlimited amount of yard waste may be placed out for collection in any commonly available light gauge steel, plastic or galvanized receptacle of a nonabsorbent material, closed at one end and open at the other, and without any jagged or sharp edges, furnished with a tightly fitted top or lid and handles, which receptacle shall have a capacity not to exceed 40 gallons nor weigh more than 50 pounds each when full. Plastic bags which are designed to store and enclose yard waste, with sufficient wall strength to maintain physical integrity when lifted by the top, and weighing no more than 50 pounds each when full are also acceptable. Yard waste can also be placed out in TIED bundles, no longer than five (5) feet or contain branches larger than five (5) inches in diameter. The Contractor will leave behind items exceeding the 40 gallon/50 pound limit, bundles exceeding the 5 foot/5 inch limit, bundles NOT tied or yard waste mixed with solid waste or hazardous waste. A tag indicating the reason will be left.

The Contractor may impose an additional charge, with prior written approval from the City, if the annual maximums are exceeded by the resident.
Automobile Batteries

Minor Household Repair and Minor Remodeling Debris
Minor Household Repair and Minor Remodeling Debris is collected one (1) time per week. Your pickup schedule is on your second scheduled solid waste pickup day. Minor repair and remodeling debris is limited to three (3) garbage cans maximum per residence per week. The Contractor will leave behind items not in compliance. A tag indicating the reason will be left.
Side-Door Collection
Side-Door Collection is available for disabled persons who qualify and present to the City the appropriate documentation. An advance request to the Solid Waste Division at 407-688-5089 is required.
Side-door collection service is available for all disabled persons who are unable by reason of age or infirmity to place solid waste, of whatever nature, wherever located, at regular locations. This includes all residential collection services. Pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), those residents of the City who present to the City a notarized certificate from a licensed physician certifying that such person is disabled will be exempt from placing their items curbside or alley. Disabled persons must provide certification to the City annually and the City will subsequently notify the Contractor. The Contractor will collect items of such disabled persons in any mutually convenient place on the premises of such disabled persons; provided, however that the Contractor will NOT be required to go into houses or other structures; provided, further, however that the decision of the City relative to the location of solid waste shall be final.
Side-door collection is also available to residents without disabilities at an additional charge. An advance request to the Solid Waste Division at 407-688-5089 is required.
Solid Waste Collection Fee Assistance Program
Solid Waste Collection Fee Assistance Program is available for residents who present to the City the appropriate documentation and qualify with Federal Poverty Guidelines. An advance request to the Solid Waste Division at 407-688-5089 is required.
Solid Waste Collection Fee Assistance will assist eligible households in paying for garbage costs. Those residents of the City who present to the City the required information and documentation could be eligible for a monthly benefit payment. You may be eligible if your household size and income qualify with Federal Poverty Guidelines. Solid Waste Collection fee applicants must provide the required information and documents to the City annually.

Location of Collection Containers
ALL collection materials must be placed out for pickup by 7:00 A.M. the day of collection service, or no earlier than 5:00 P.M. of the day before a scheduled collection service day.
All collection services, with the exception of side-door collection must be placed in approved containers at locations that are readily accessible to the Contractor and their equipment, normally not to exceed eight (8) feet from the curb or edge of the traveled portion of an alley or street as authorized by the City. Containers may be placed out for collection no earlier than 5:00 P.M. of the day before a scheduled collection and shall be removed not later than 7:00 P.M. of the day of collection.
Hours of Collection
ALL collection services will occur on Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:00 A.M. and 7:00 P.M., with the exception of the four (4) scheduled Saturday collections for “Community Clean Up Day” in April and October of each year.
Complaints
ALL complaints received before 2:00 P.M. will be resolved the same day; complaints received after 2:00 P.M. will be resolved by 12:00 NOON the following business day.
Residential Recycling

Free Bulk Waste Community Clean Up Day

Electronics Recycling
E-scrap is the term used to describe end-of-life electronics. Computer components and televisions are specifically targeted for recycling because they contain high levels of lead. E-scrap is accepted at no charge from private households at the Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Center, located at the Central Transfer Station, 1950 State Road 419, Longwood. Household Hazardous Waste
Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) items are NOT picked up at curbside and require special handling and disposal. Residents should bring these items to the HHW Collection Center, located at the Central Transfer Station, 1950 State Road 419, Longwood. The center is open from 7:30 A.M. to 5:30 P.M., Monday – Saturday, excluding holidays, and accepts materials such as:
- Antifreeze
- Florescent Lamps
- Gasoline
- Rechargeable Batteries
- Paint
- Poisons
- Used Oil Filters
- Propane Tanks
- Pool & Lawn Chemicals
- Solvents – Thinners
- Thermometers (mercury)
- Aerosols
- Used Motor Oil
- Thermostats
- Automotive Batteries
- Pesticides
All containers brought to the center must be in good condition and have CLEARLY LABELED CONTENTS. Disposal is free for all Seminole County residents. Used Oil Collection
The ONLY items accepted at the Seminole County Landfill, 1930 East Osceola Road, Geneva are: used motor oil, used oil filters, automotive batteries and propane tanks. This facility is open from 7:30 A.M. to 5:30 P.M. 7 days a week, excluding holidays.
