TALLAHASSEE, FL – August 30, 2021 – As the new school year gets underway, Waste Pro is proud to announce it is joining the Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce and Leon County Schools (LCS) as part of their Classroom Connection program. The initiative is for local Tallahassee/Leon County businesses to support local students through ‘adoption’ and sponsorship of kindergarten classrooms.

According to the organizers, this past school year, 46% of Leon County third graders were not reading on grade level, and 38% of students weren’t ready for kindergarten.

As part of the program, Waste Pro will join the Chamber and LCS to assist teachers, schools, and parents in the foundation of reading, math, social, and emotional skills developed during students’ critical first year of elementary school. Waste Pro Governmental Affairs liaison and Municipal Marketer Loyd Childree will be working with Bond Elementary School in Tallahassee as part of the program. He will help students with their reading skills, life skills, and organize a field trip where they can visit a Waste Pro garbage truck.

“Children who start kindergarten with grade-level skills or higher are ready for a successful and satisfying education,” said Senior Vice President Ralph Mills. “Not only do we want to help them succeed in their education, we also want to show them how important their parents’ jobs and contributions are to our community.”
