MEMPHIS, TN – April 2, 2019 – Three staff members in Waste Pro’s Memphis, TN/Southaven, MS region have been recognized for their safety awareness in the workplace. Lisa Cunningham, a garbage truck driver, earned her first $10,000 Safety Award, while Keithon Sykes and Shaun Taylor, both helpers, earned Waste Pro’s new $5,000 Helper Award.
Being a garbage truck driver is consistently ranked as one of the most dangerous jobs in the country by several research organizations, including the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. For that reason, Waste Pro is the only private company in the country to offer its drivers a $10,000 Safety Award, a program which was established in 2004, or a $5,000 award to helpers. So far, more than $3.5 million has been awarded to drivers and helpers across Waste Pro’s nine-state footprint.
To earn the $10,000 or $5,000 award, drivers and helpers must go three years without accidents, injuries, or property damage, excel in customer service, have a positive attitude and strong attendance record, and maintain a well-kept truck.
“This was an opportunity for us to celebrate one of our drivers and two of our helpers for trusting in the Waste Pro process and believing in safe practices in the workplace,” said Roland Joyner, Regional Vice President of Waste Pro’s Southern Region. “They are a huge asset to the Waste Pro family in the Memphis/Southaven area.”
