MERIDIAN, MS – October 8, 2020 – Two Waste Pro employees in Meridian, MS are being hailed as heroes for rescuing a woman from a potential house fire after she fell and couldn’t get up.
Terry Davidson, Assistant Division Manager, and Stanley Stewart, Residential Route Supervisor, were on their route performing cart repairs at customers’ homes and were just about to head back to the office when they decided to make one more stop. When they arrived, the cart was under a carport. As they approached it, Davidson heard faint calls for help. Stewart asked for permission to enter and saw smoke in the hallway when he opened the door.
It turned out the woman had been cooking bacon on the stove when she fell. She said she was on the floor for about 30 minutes before they arrived while the bacon burned, sending smoke through the house. Davidson and Stewart turned off the stove, unplugged it, called 911, and stayed with her until an ambulance arrived to make sure she was okay.
“These two didn’t intend to go to her house until later in the day, so they were clearly in the right place at the right time – the outcome could have been much worse,” said Regional Vice President Chris Lockwood. “They aren’t the type of guys to share this story in hopes of recognition, but I want our customers to know of the wonderful people we have here at Waste Pro.”
