Bob Hyres, a senior vice president with Waste Pro, was awarded the Distinguished Service Award from the National Solid Wastes Management Association (NSWMA) on May 21, 2002 at the NSWMA annual international convention in Las Vegas. Waste Pro is a regional waste collection company, with its corporate headquarters located in Longwood, Florida serving Florida, Georgia and South Carolina. The company CEO is John Jennings, a name well known locally and nationally in the solid waste business. Their distinctive environmentally themed blue and green trucks are showing up all over the southeast as the company is experiencing dynamic growth.
Mr. Hyres, a Central Florida native, has been in the waste collection and recycling business for 18 years. During this time he has served on many statewide and national solid waste boards and committees. He is currently the chairman for the Advisory Board for the Florida Center for Solid and Hazardous Waste Study, a research center that is part of the Florida university system sited at the University of Florida. He serves on the national Board of Governors of the NSWMA as the Florida voting representative. He has also been active in leadership roles in both the Keep Orlando Beautiful and the Keep Florida Beautiful organizations. Recently Mr. Hyres received an Outstanding Achievement Award for solid waste service from the U.S. Conference of Mayors in Washington D.C.
