NATCHEZ, MS – September 22nd, 2015 – Solid waste and recyclable material collection is the fifth most fatal occupation in the United States, causing fatal injuries to more than 4,000 garbage truck drivers in the past year. In an effort to raise awareness to this issue among their employees, Waste Pro makes it a priority to reward truck drivers who are committed to keeping safety paramount in their work practices.
Sam Berry, a garbage truck driver, serving at Waste Pro’s Natchez, Mississippi Division, was recognized in August for his flawless performance over the last three years, with a $10,000 Safety Award. Originally from Claiborne County, he joined the Waste Pro team in 2011 and drives a commercial route. Sam is the first employee from the Natchez location to receive a Safety Award.
“Sam is a self-sufficient driver,” says Division Manager, Doug Atkins. “He is a hard worker and takes pride in his work and his truck. He is a great example of a Waste Pro employee and what Waste Pro stands for.”
Since its inception in 2004, Waste Pro’s Safety Program has distributed more than $1.5 million in Safety Awards. Employees earn the Waste Pro Safety Award as a result of: a spotless work record for three years, excellent customer service, no accidents, injuries, or property damage, having a positive attitude and attendance record on the job, along with a well-kept truck.
