SALISBURY, NC June 25, 2012– Residents of the City of Salisbury will pay lower recycling rates and see an increase in recyclable items, beginning July 2nd, courtesy of a new contract with Waste Pro. Assistant City Manager, John Sofley said the new contract results in a slightly lower recycling rate than the city is currently paying.

City Spokeswoman, Elaney Hasselmann, said she’s looking forward to watching the participation increase from the current average of 35 percent, as a result of the expanded list of acceptable items. These newly accepted items include juice boxes, coated plastic cartons, wide-mouth containers, and shredded paper.

In addition to the expanded list of acceptable items, residents have received new 96-gallon recycling collection carts from Waste Pro, along with a service schedule magnet. The new easy-to-use carts hold significantly more than the bins residents have used in the past and can be rolled to the curb for pick-up.

Collection will take place on residents’ regular garbage pickup day, on a biweekly basis. The services will be managed by Waste Pro’s facility located at, 185 Manor Avenue in Concord.
